"Big City" - "Prince from Minneapolis" Presentation

Back in April, I participated in the Prince from Minneapolis Symposium at the University of Minnesota. Check out my presentation, "Willing to do the Work: The Spiritual Mission of Prince, 1990-2016," and some more information below.

This is essentially part two of my research; I presented on Prince's spiritual journey through the 1980s at the Purple Reign Conference last year.

It was really interesting digging into Prince's spirituality during the 1990s. He studied myriad Eastern religions, as well as mystical and esoteric concepts before becoming a Jehovah's Witness.

Many fans are wondering how committed Prince was to the Jehovah's Witness faith before he died. I visited his Kingdom Hall in Minneapolis, and I was able to provide a bit more clarity on that in my presentation.

  1. Hi Erica. I really enjoyed your presentation. I agree with what the lady told you in the audience; if you cannot get a publisher to publish the book then go the self publisher route. I and I'm sure many others would be interested in reading about this. If you think about it you have invested alot of time and effort into this. I also have a feeling that Prince himself would encourage you to continue to forge ahead to meet your goal of getting this published. From what he has shown us during his life is that he wouldn't let anything stop him if he was working towards something. I think you will be pleasantly surprised to see how much support you would get if you did a kickstarter campaign. Keep up the good work and I will continue to follow your blog/progress.

  2. One more thing I forgot to mention. You should try to get in contact with Prince podcasts like Michael Dean, Muse 2 the Pharaoh podcast by KaNisha (a spinoff from Michael Dean's podcast), Prince's Friend (on YouTube), or Dr. Funkenberry if you haven't already to see if they would be willing to have you be a guest on their shows so you can talk about Prince"s spiritual journey and your blog/book. It would help get you some publicity so more would know about it and Prince's possible spiritual journey. A lot of people would like to know about all different aspects of Prince and that would be a way to introduce that to more people. Just a thought.
